NORTHERN ARIZONA WRANGLERS CRUISE PAST SAN DIEGO STRIKE FORCE WITH 48-9 VICTORY

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. — The Northern Arizona Wranglers were firing on all cylinders on Sunday afternoon, as they handed the San Diego Strike Force a 48-9 beatdown.

The momentum for the Wranglers began from the very first snap of the game, and never ceased. The game's first play saw Northern Arizona defensive bank Travion Banks nabbing a leaping interception. The Wranglers offense was off to the races instantly with a 42-yard bomb from quarterback Garrett Kettle to wide receiver Ryan Wisniewski for the score. The Wranglers took a 7-0 lead over the Strike Force and did not look back. On the following Wranglers offensive possession, Kettle found Wisniewski open again for another 30-yard touchdown. To close the first quarter Kettle threw a dart to wide receiver Ramaud Chiaokhiao-Bowman for yet another 30-yard touchdown.

The Wranglers entered the second quarter with a 21-0 lead over the Strike Force, and everything seemed to be clicking for Northern Arizona. The Strike Force managed to miss their field goal attempts on three consecutive drives between the first and second quarters. The Wranglers were taking advantage of their offensive possessions to this point. Chiaokhiao-Bowman caught his second touchdown of the game from Kettle, and Northern Arizona maintained a 28-0 lead over San Diego.

On the next drive, Wranglers defensive back Kishawn Walker kept the momentum rolling for the team. Walker snagged an interception and returned it 19 yards. Unfortunately, the Wranglers were unable to capitalize off the turnover. Northern Arizona surrendered the first points of the game to San Diego with just two seconds left in the first half, to no fault of the Wranglers defense. Northern Arizona running back Jarrod Ware Jr. was tackled for a loss in his own end zone for the safety. The Wranglers entered halftime with a comfortable 28-2 lead over the Strike Force.

To start the third quarter, Kettle located Wisniewski open for his third touchdown of the game. The Wranglers held a 35-2 lead over the Strike Force and opted to go with a quarterback change during the third quarter. Wranglers quarterback Nick Watson entered the game, and the offense did not miss a beat. Watson opened the fourth quarter of the game by throwing a laser to Wisniewski for the 35-yard touchdown.

The Wranglers defense gave up their only touchdown of the day when game was out of reach for the Strike Force. Ware Jr. scored the games' final touchdown with a one-yard score on the ground.

The Wranglers notched their second consecutive win with ease on Sunday afternoon, bringing their 2023 record to 2-1. Wisniewski is a good candidate for the Indoor Football League's Offensive Player of the Week award after his stellar performance on Sunday. Wisniewski hauled in five receptions for 125 yards and four touchdowns. Kettle threw for more touchdown passes than incompletions. Kettle's pass attempts only hit the ground twice on Sunday, as he threw five touchdown passes. On the defensive side of the ball, Walker tallied seven total tackles, two interceptions, and one pass defended. Defensive lineman Theo Majette was also a force against the Strike Force. Majette totaled six tackles, four of which were for a loss. Majette also recorded a sack.

The Wranglers will be hitting the road next week for the first time in their 2023 season. The Wranglers will face the Bay Area Panthers next week in San Jose, Calif. The Panthers currently hold a 1-2 record on the season. The Wranglers have a three-game road stint approaching, and will not return home to Pinnacle Bank Field on the Findlay Toyota Center until May 13th.
