Sunday's game began with both teams trading scoreless drives. The Panthers took a 6-0 lead with a touchdown on their second drive of the game with just 4:32 left in the first quarter. The Wranglers answered with a touchdown on the ensuing possession. Quarterback
Garrett Kettle scrambled out of the pocket and took it in for the rushing score. The game was competitive and intense early on, and the gap widened before the end of the second quarter. The Wranglers entered halftime down two possessions, by a score of 20-6.
The Wranglers came out of the half with a promising drive offensively, until kicker
Brandon Fischer had his field goal attempt blocked. The Wranglers surrendered another Panthers touchdown and things started to become out of reach for the Wranglers very quickly. The Panthers scored a defensive touchdown after a Wranglers fumble, and the score was now 34-6 with just over four minutes left in the third quarter. The third quarter ended with that same score, and the Wranglers entered the fourth down by 28.
The Wranglers scored their final points of the game when wide receiver
Ramaud Chiaokhiao-Bowman took a short pass from Kettle for a 40-yard touchdown. The Wranglers ultimately fell very short, losing by a final score of 47-13. Northern Arizona struggled in all three phases of the game on Sunday. The Wranglers surrendered a defensive touchdown, and two special teams scores. The Wranglers offense struggled to move the ball and score points consistently, mustering only 13 total points.
The Wranglers will have a short week, playing their next game on the road against the Vegas Knight Hawks on Friday. This will be a good opportunity for Northern Arizona to bounce back and forget this loss. After their next game against the Knight Hawks, the Wranglers will play the Tucson Sugar Skulls on the road before returning to Pinnacle Bank Field at the Findlay Toyota Center on May 13th. That next home game will be a rematch against the Bay Area Panthers.
