WRANGLERS DEFENSIVE BACK BRENDON LUPER EARNS IFL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. — The Northern Arizona Wranglers defensive back was selected by the Indoor Football League as the league's Defensive Player of the Week.
Defensive back Brendon Luper delivered a standout performance against the Tucson Sugar Skulls, highlighted by a game-sealing interception that secured the Wranglers victory. Clinging to a two-point lead late in the fourth quarter, the Wranglers turned to their defense, as Brendon Luper jumped the route and made a spectacular interception in the end zone to seal the win. Wranglers country erupted and rallied behind Luper as he closed out the game. This play propelled the Wranglers to a 1-0 start under Interim Head Coach Larry Hendrix.
Luper was all over the field against the Sugar Skulls, recording seven total tackles and a pass breakup. This recognition was well deserved for Luper, who has quickly risen to the occasion with an increased role on the Wranglers defense.
Luper is coming off back-to-back award-worthy performances. Just one week earlier, against the New Mexico Chupacabras, Luper recovered two fumbles and nabbed another interception. Luper has continued to prove to be a top defender on the Wranglers defensive unit.
Luper is the third Wranglers player to earn an IFL Player of the Week recognition. Kicker Nestor "Manny" Higuera has been selected twice for special teams, and quarterback Anthony Garrett was also selected for the offensive side of the ball.
The Wranglers will return home for their final home game of the 2026 on July 12th. Northern Arizona will face New Mexico at home before closing their season with two road games.
