Bio
Coach Mikell Mair returns to the Wranglers organization for a third consecutive season. Coach Mair had a long-standing career playing Indoor Football for various teams prior to joining the Wranglers ahead of the 2024 season. Coach Mair enters year two of being an integral piece of the Wranglers staff. Mair joins the Wranglers coaching staff to assist the coaches and players. Mair will wear many hats on the side of football operations and brings his impressive resume as a player to the Wranglers. Mair has been a dominant player and has played for many winning teams throughout his career. Mair is looking forward to winning in Northern Arizona as an assistant coach and the lead man for player/video operations and equipment management.
Mair first gained coaching experience in Orange County, California. In 2014, as a defensive backs coach at Santa Ana College, which is in Santa Ana, CA. In 2018, Mair coached linebackers at Tustin High School, which is in Tustin, CA. Mair credits both Orange County schools for his development as an outstanding player, as he played high school football at Tustin High School (2001-2003) and Junior College football at Santa Ana College (2005-2007) prior to transferring to Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2007. Mair is originally from Boston, Mass., where he started playing football in the inner-city neighborhood of Dorchester for the Boston Raiders, where he discovered his passion for football. Mair attended Texas A&M University-Commerce, where he started out as a strong safety before shifting to middle linebacker and maintaining that role throughout his professional career as a player. As a senior, Mair and the Lions earned the 2009 Lone Star Conference North Division Championship title.
During Mair’s first season in the Indoor Football League in 2016, he was a leader and a force for the Billings Wolves defense. Mair led the team in sacks that season and ranked second on the Wolves' defense in tackles for loss. Mair also finished the season as the second leading tackler on the Wolves' dominant defense in 2016. In week four of that season, Mair earned himself a Defensive Player of the Week recognition for his stellar performance against the Spokane Shock, which had the IFL’s most dominant offensive unit at the time. Mair continued to be a commanding linebacker in the IFL, as he played well for the Colorado Crush in 2017. Most recently, Mair played for the San Diego Strike Force in 2019, where he was the defensive leader in tackles during his time with the team. Mair finished the 2019 season as the second leading tackler despite not playing in the last 6 games of the season.
Mair has also gained Indoor Football experience in other leagues. Late in the 2017 season, Mair was a late addition to the team and was a key piece to a stacked Vermont Bucks defense that won the Championship in the Canadian American Indoor Football League. There is one fun fact that indirectly ties Mair to the Wranglers home arena, the Findlay Toyota Center. Mair played for the Ontario Warriors of the American Indoor Football League in 2012. During that season, Mair played a game on the road against the Arizona Outlaws inside what is now the Wranglers home arena. During this game in Prescott Valley, Mair notched not one, but two interceptions, and ran them both back for touchdowns to go along with several jaw-dropping tackles and 2 forced fumbles.
