NORTHERN ARIZONA WRANGLERS @ TUCSON SUGAR SKULLS GAME PREVIEW (4.27.24)

PRESCOTT, Ariz. — The Northern Arizona Wranglers will hit the road this weekend, to take on the Tucson Sugar Skulls for their second away game of the season.

The Wranglers will be heading on the road for their next two games and will be heading to Southern Arizona to take on the Tucson Sugar Skulls. The Wranglers are currently hitting their stride, as they will ride into Tucson with three consecutive wins. Last week, the Wranglers defense dominated the Duke City Gladiators in their 39-23 victory at home. The Wranglers defeated the Sugar Skulls in their first meeting of the season, by a score of 54-48. Northern Arizona will now head into enemy territory for their second of three regular season battles.

Since the Wranglers win against the Sugar Skulls in late March, Tucson got one victory, before losing their last two games. The Wranglers enter this matchup with a 3-1 record, while the Sugar Skulls are 1-3 on the season. Tucson has many talented players and expect starting quarterback Mylik Mitchell to return the lineup after resting last weekend. The Sugar Skulls battled the Wranglers in a close game during their first faceoff and expect another hard-fought battle between the two in-state rivals.

Northern Arizona is just hitting their stride early in the season, and only look to improve upon their three-game win streak. The Wranglers offense has been averaging 48.5 points per game, which ranks the fourth highest in the IFL. Northern Arizona's defense jumped up in the ranks after their lights out performance against Duke City. The Wranglers defense has forced the most fumbles in the IFL season so far, and have recorded the most team sacks. The Wranglers defense also allows the fourth least total yards per game to opposing offenses. The Sugar Skulls rank among the middle of the pack in most of these categories.

Wide receiver Arsiah McCorker (RZ) has scored 10 total touchdowns in four games, which ranks second in the league behind Frisco Fighters quarterback TJ Edwards. Defensive end Tramond Lofton currently leads the league with four sacks in the Wranglers first four games. Lofton is also the reigning IFL Defensive Player of the Year from the 2023 season. Quarterback Josh Jones continues to play well, utilizing both his arm and legs to beat opposing defenses. Jones ranks fifth in the IFL in both passing touchdowns and yards. The Sugar Skulls will be hungry to get back in the win column and looking for revenge on the Wranglers for that the first meeting. The Wranglers are looking to keep the momentum going and extend their win streak in enemy territory.
