Sterling-Cole joins the Wranglers for his first season in the Indoor Football League. Sterling-Cole last played football in 2022 at Midwestern State University, which is in Wichita Falls, Texas. Sterling-Cole had a phenomenal two-year stint for the Mustangs, as he completed 57% of his passes for 3,478 yards and 29 touchdowns. Sterling-Cole also rushed for 218 yards and five touchdowns. In 2021, Sterling-Cole earned the Lone Star Conference (LSC) Offensive Player of the Year award. Sterling-Cole also earned LSC Newcomer of the Year award in 2021 and was named an LSC Offensive Player of the Week on one occasion. During his 2021 campaign, Sterling-Cole was one of 36 players nominated for the Harlon Hill Trophy, (which is the Division II equivalent to the Heisman). Sterling-Cole was named to the All-LSC First Team in 2021, and was recognized as an honorable mention for the All-LSC squad in 2022.

Sterling-Cole began his collegiate career in 2016 at Arizona State University, in Tempe, Ariz., before transferring over to Midwestern State in 2020. Sterling-Cole earned his bachelor's degree in sociology from ASU. During his first year of eligibility at Midwestern State, Sterling-Cole was named to the 2020 LSC Commissioners Honor Roll. Regarding his academic success, Sterling-Cole stated, "My mom, future Dr. Shalynndrea Sterling-Teel, inspired all my educational achievements growing up, which lead me to earn the degrees I have today." After just two seasons on the field at Midwestern State, Sterling-Cole also nabbed the third most games with 200 or more passing yards in school history.

Sterling-Cole is originally from Orange, Texas, and eventually moved to Houston where he attended Westfield High School. Sterling-Cole's father played in the National Football League for the Denver Broncos and was inspired to start playing by his father and uncle. Sterling-Cole recalls watching his father play football with his family during his childhood. Sterling-Cole stated, "I had a lot of football influence in my family, I grew up watching my dad play at home with other members of my family." Sterling-Cole also added to this by saying, "My family would watch my dad and my uncle Mike would teach me about the game and the skills that I needed to able to play."

When asked what has inspired him to continue playing football, Sterling-Cole credited his family by stating, "My great grandmother was a very passionate person who always had a big positive influence on the neighborhood, she taught me to never quit, how to clean up after myself, and how to treat others." Sterling-Cole expanded on this by stating, "A good way to honor her is to do what I do best, play football and finish what I started."

Sterling-Cole is looking forward to his first year with the Wranglers and in the IFL. Sterling-Cole said, "I am excited for the opportunity to play football at the professional level. I am willing to learn as much as possible about playing in the IFL and translate what I learn to the field." Sterling-Cole expanded by saying, "This is what I want to do, I want to play football, I am motivated to work for the starting quarterback position and start winning games." When asked what the fans can expect to see from him and the Wranglers in 2024, Sterling-Cole said, "I will remain calm, cool and collected, and I am inspired to go work for a Championship win." Sterling-Cole added to this statement when he said, "I want to see the fans continue to have faith in the team and what we can accomplish, we will never be out of a game."
