The Wranglers found themselves facing early adversity in Phoenix, going down by a score of 14-0 during the first quarter. Wranglers wide receiver
Jacob Moss provided a spark for Northern Arizona during his Indoor Football League debut. After the Wranglers went down by two scores, Moss took the ensuing kickoff return for a 50-yard touchdown, as he bounced off a Rattlers defender, and found space to the end zone. This play had the potential to ignite the Wranglers, but ultimately the spark flamed out for them.
Â
The Wranglers surrendered 25 unanswered points to the Rattlers and entered halftime down by a score of 39-7.
Â
The Wranglers opened the third quarter in possession of the football, and scored their first offensive points of the game with a touchdown rush from wide receiver
Glen Gibbons Jr. The Wranglers were faced with a 39-13 deficit, and a slight glimmer of hope. The Rattlers responded with a touchdown of their own, on a drive that took almost six minutes off the clock. On the following possession, the Wranglers scored a touchdown in just one play. Northern Arizona quarterback
Garrett Kettle located wide receiver
Ramaud Chiaokhiao-Bowman open for a 35-yard touchdown. The Rattlers ended the third quarter with an offensive touchdown, and the Wranglers remained behind by a score of 53-19.
Â
With the game out of reach for the Wranglers, the fourth quarter consisted of one final Rattlers touchdown, and some more points for the Wranglers that didn't move the needle for the games final score. Chiaokhiao-Bowman scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, totaling three for the game. Wranglers defensive end
Tramond Lofton also recorded a safety. The game's final score was 60-34, in favor of the Rattlers.
Â
The Wranglers drop to a 5-3 record on the season. The Wranglers surrendered too many turnovers and lacked physicality on Saturday evening. This game felt similar to the Wranglers lopsided loss to the Bay Area Panthers on the road earlier this season. To look at the positive side of the loss, Northern Arizona defeated Bay Area at home just two weeks after losing on the road in lopsided fashion. The Wranglers will have that same opportunity for revenge when the Rattlers travel to Prescott Valley, Ariz., in two weeks.
Â
Northern Arizona will hit the road again next week to take on the Duke City Gladiators, in Rio Rancho, NM.
