At no surprise to anyone within the Wranglers organization, the IFL rightfully selected Coach Moss as the league's 2022 Coach of the Year.
Â
Coach Moss stepped into the Wranglers head coaching role, taking over an organization that managed only one win during their inaugural season. Moss quickly established a new culture for Northern Arizona, assembling an incredible supporting coaching staff, with the likes of assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Rob Keefe, offensive coordinator Rod Windsor, and defensive line coach Dave Moran.
Â
Coach Moss quickly got to work, recruiting players that have performed exceptionally well this season for the Wranglers. Many players that Moss and crew recruited to come play in Prescott Valley, have never played football at the professional level. These players have believed in the Wranglers new culture established by Moss from day one, and became the IFL's most unlikely Western Conference Champion to many.
Â
Under Moss, the Wranglers finished the 2022 regular season with a 12-4 record, which included a tremendous eight-game winning streak. The Wranglers did not lose a single game in the months of May and June. The Wranglers season also featured an undefeated record on Pinnacle Bank Field at the Findlay Toyota Center, as they didn't lose a single game in front of Wranglers Nation. This included eight wins in the regular season, and their victory against the Tucson Sugar Skulls in the first round of the IFL Playoffs.
Â
Here are just a few of the accomplishments that Coach Moss and the Wranglers have achieved this season, including what was mentioned above:
- First NAZ Road Win
- First NAZ Winning Season
- First NAZ Playoff Appearance
- First NAZ Playoff Win (Made that two with one to go.)
- First NAZ IFL National Championship Game Appearance
- 2022 IFL Coach of the Year (First for NAZ, first for Moss in the IFL)
Many IFL fans have referred to the Wranglers as the biggest "Cinderella Story" in IFL history, but this team is more than just that. If you ask Coach Moss, he will tell you that the Wranglers are right where they envisioned themselves being prior to the season. What makes the culture so special in Northern Arizona, is that every single player and coach held the belief that this team would go to the IFL National Championship. When no one else in the IFL saw the Wranglers coming, those who are a part of the team knew all along. From a 1-13 record in 2021, for a chance to compete for the IFL National Title. This team is special, and that is not up for debate. Congratulations to Coach Moss for receiving this award, however, he will be the first to tell you that he wants that National Championship Victory more than any personal accolade he would EVER receive.
