The Wranglers surrendered a touchdown on the Knight Hawks opening offensive possession, however, they managed to block the extra point and keep Vegas' lead to 6-0. The Wranglers offense responded by marching from their own five-yard line to the end zone, with quarterback
Kaleb Barker scoring on a three-yard touchdown run. The first quarter would come to close with the Wranglers holding a one-point lead, by a score of 7-6.
Â
Northern Arizona gained major momentum in the game, after they stopped Vegas' 4th and 2 attempt, as they threatened to score inside the NAZ five-yard line. The Wranglers would take a 14-6 lead, after a complete offensive drive, which was capped off with a three-yard touchdown run from running back
Israel Tucker.
Â
The ensuing Knight Hawks offensive drive was where the Wranglers would completely take control of the game. Defensive back
Mercardo Anderson found himself scooping the football off of the ground, and returning the Knight Hawks fumble for six points. Anderson recorded a pick-6 during the Wranglers previous matchup with the Knight Hawks. Wide receiver
Quentin Randolph also found the end zone again for the Wranglers fourth straight touchdown with no Knight Hawks points.
Â
That 28-point run ended just before halftime, when the Knight Hawks returned a kickoff for a touchdown. The Wranglers entered halftime with a 28-12 lead.
Â
The Wranglers scored two touchdowns in the third quarter, and shut the Knight Hawks out in those 15 minutes. Wide receiver
Glen Gibbons Jr. bounced off multiple defenders, as he dashed for the end zone. Barker also added a second rushing touchdown to make the lead 42-12, in favor of the Wranglers.
Â
The 4th quarter would see one Knight Hawks touchdown, and a 33-yard field goal made by Wranglers kicker
Brandon Fischer. The game ended with a score of 45-18, with the Wranglers reigning victorious.
Â
Barker added another impressive performance for his Indoor Football League resume. Barker threw for 116 yards and two touchdown passes, in addition to 37 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Â
Tucker continues to grow as a threat in the backfield, racking up 60 total yards and a touchdown. On the defensive side of the football, defensive back
Trae Meadows recorded nine total tackles.
Â
The Wranglers return home next Saturday to Pinnacle Bank Field at the Findlay Toyota Center, to take on the Tucson Sugar Skulls. Both teams will be coming in hot; the Wranglers, off two straight wins on the road, and the Sugar Skulls, off three straight victories. The Sugar Skulls most recent victory came against the undefeated Arizona Rattlers. The Wranglers will be looking for revenge from the 72-62 shootout loss just a few weeks ago.
